Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms Wiki

Y'know, this wiki is also quite toxic itself... oh, the irony.
Type: Reception wiki
Hosting service: Miraheze
Founding date: Late 2018
Closing date: May 2021
Also/formerly known as: Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki

Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki was a wiki from the Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki Database dedicated to criticizing fandoms and communities of various media, people, etc. It was closed down on September 22, 2020 due to violating Miraheze's Code of Conduct and its long history of drama and bias. This wiki is still regarded as an big insult to fans and critics, especially the memes.

Why It Was Toxic Itself

  1. First of all, this wiki is nothing more than criticism of real people, which is already a link to make drama happen, this alone shows how hopeless this wiki was.
  2. This wiki was notorious for being full of biased, exaggerated, hateful and picky pages that gossiped and lied about fandoms, hatedoms, groups of people, etc. They accused fandoms of "shoehorning" (such as putting their favorite characters into the other media for imagination).[1]
    • The Chucky Cheese Fandom and Hatedom page claims that Munch Jr is a nonexistent character, when he actually appeared on the 3-Stage and a 2019 showtape, however he is unnamed and nicknamed "Munch Jr." by fans.[2]
    • The same thing also claims that they mostly praise the 1994 version of Chucky Cheese, when that version was actually introduced as Avenger Chucky in 1997.
  3. The wiki and its users were extremely disrespectful:
    • Kink Shaming: The wiki used to negatively portray pornography and fetishes, because of the infamous Body Fetish page, pointers related to porn fan art (usually Rule 34). They also condemned Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid porn fan art for being NoMAP, which is slander, as the dragons are over 18 years. Although they (thankfully) banned that, they exaggerated it, thus unintentionally allowing child pornography. Inkster did that.
    • Anti-Meme: The wiki couldn't even handle jokes or memes:
      • There were infamous pages were about ironic/troll fandoms (in which the pages' bad qualities headers doesn't use Why They Intentionally Suck/Why They're Intentionally Toxic), such as Big Chungus, Cory in the House,[3] Shrek, etc. Thankfully, they banned those pages.
      • Speaking of ironic fandoms, there was also a page about the meme community.[4]
      • On top of that, there was even a page about hate memes, despite the fact that most hate memes, just like almost every other meme in existence, aren't meant to be taken seriously at all.[5]
      • Some of the bad qualities on several pages involve memes as well.[6][7]
    • Anti-Crossover: The wiki hated crossovers because "they are out of place" and "make no sense". This is disrespectful to fans and free speech, not to mention that not all crossovers are terrible.
    • Hypocrisy: The wiki also was hypocritical at times. For example, there was a page about kink shaming,[8] but the wiki itself also committed kink shaming.
  4. Adding insult to injury, the wiki took itself seriously. This caused drama even outside the wiki.
  5. Plenty of unneccesary categories, such as "Opnions that really deserve disrespecting", "Shoehorners",[9] "Worshippers",[10] etc.
  6. Many pages were underdeveloped.[11]
  7. Although this could arguably be a redeeming quality, some people were indefinitely blocked on the wiki for sending foe requests, which is a minor offense on other wikis.
  8. The bureaucrats had double standards when it came to the admins. For example Trashanimal got demoted for telling Caulipower to cooperate with him, since the latter was refusing to do so, yet Caulipower, who was refusing criticism and acted rude to Trashanimal, got to stay an admin on this wiki and the ShoutWiki version and is worshipped by the others anyways despite being rude and refusing criticism.
  9. There used to be a page about the pop music hatedom, which was extremely biased.
  10. Its sister wiki, Healthy Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki, was no better; it shared the same problems as this wiki, only written from a positive perspective. On top of that, most fandoms/hatedoms have pages on the positive wiki, such as the "crossover hatedom", which is pure bias from the admins who were running the site at that time.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. In general, the idea of a wiki about toxic fandoms and hatedoms definitely sounds like a good idea on paper, though was unfortunately poorly executed and led by a corrupt staff team resulting in all the problems listed above.
  2. Some pages were helpful and well-written:
    • Weeaboos[12] and Koreaboos[13]
    • K-Pop Fandom and Hatedom[14]
    • COVID-19/Coronavirus Deniers[15]
    • Kink Shaming[8]
    • LGBT Hatedom (Homophobia)[16] and Heterosexuality Hatedom (Heterophobia)[17]
    • Stereotyping[18]
    • Pedophiles[19]
    • Holocaust Deniers[20]
    • Five Nights at Freddy's Fandom and Hatedom[21]
    • The Emoji Movie Hatedom[22]
    • Teen Titans Go! Hatedom[23]
    • Circle-Jerking (Opinion Bandwagoning)[24]
    • The Anime Community and Hatedom[25][26]
    • Treating opinions as facts
  3. Some pages had references and links to back up their claims.[27][28]
  4. Some admins were great, friendly, productive, and helpful. They worked hard to be thorough in removing pages that had banned phrases or biased text, although they did miss some pages.
  5. The "How to Write Better Page Articles" was a decent blog post, as it serves as a tutorial for users to tone down overused phrases, as well as to source their articles. Unfortunately, not a lot of users followed the latter part.

How Someone Can Create A Better Alternative

  1. Do not have WAY TOO MANY pages on it, just the ones that are truly "toxic". limit the wiki to at least 500 pages or somewhere around that.
    • Remove several pages that are communities that aren't even toxic.
  2. Make the wiki alot less hateful: Make them less capitalized and less hurtful, make them look like unhateful, well-spoken/written pages.
  3. Give it a better, proper icon.
