User:Tali64^2/Creating a sister wiki

NOTE: It is possible that Incredible Wikis and Users Wiki may be revived soon, so users should hold off on creating our sister wiki. If the wiki does get revived, users are advised to contribute there.

Recently, I've been thinking: other reception wikis have sister wikis. So why shouldn't this wiki? I mean, there was a similar wiki on Miraheze named Incredible Wikis and Users Wiki, but that one's long gone, and it was bad. I think the sister wiki's name should be Incredible Wikis Wiki (no relation to the aforementioned other wiki).

Problem

The problem is, where should it be hosted? Here are the three most likely candidates:

Fandom

Pro: The wiki can be created by anyone.

Cons: Lots of ads, which is a problem unless you have an adblocker. Also, Fandom's staff or SOAP might take it down, since it's a reception wiki. But they actually might not, since it's a positive reception wiki, and there are actually clones of the positive reception wikis on Fandom, such as this one.

Miraheze

Pros: No ads, and more customization possibilities than Fandom.

Cons: The wiki would have to be requested for manual review, and considering the problems that Incredible Wikis and Users Wiki caused, it's likely to be declined as a hate wiki, which goes against Miraheze's Content Policy. In fact, a similar proposed wiki named Creative Wikis Wiki was just declined because it might cause problems (although it might be because it would've allowed pages on users).[1]

ShoutWiki

Pros: Less ads than Fandom, and since this is the same host this wiki is on, users won't need to make another account (if they don't already have one) to contribute to the sister wiki.

Con: The wiki creation tool has been down for nearly two years. Apparently it's supposed to come back in the upcoming upgrade to MediaWiki 1.35, but there's no answer to when that will happen. However, ShoutWiki staff has confirmed that the upgrade may be soon.[2]

Conclusion

I think the best option is to wait for the upgrade so the wiki can be on ShoutWiki, as it may not be much longer and the wiki has the lowest chance of being shut down.

  • Yes, it may be a good idea, I see some good wikis in the internet, like the one and only Wikipedia, the main inspiration for all wikis. Icantthinkofanamexd (talk) 06:12, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
