Horrible Music Wiki, formerly known as Horrible Music and Songs Wiki, is a reception wiki focusing on critically panned songs, albums, and artists. It was possibly founded by LambdaLegend on August 29, 2017.[1] On September 23, 2018, a Miraheze version was created by CHICHI7YT. Currently, the wiki's bureaucrats are FullInterTurn and HarmonTower805. The Fandom version was closed on February 18, 2021. This article focuses on why the wiki was bad from 2017 to 2023.

Why It Was Horrible Itself

  1. For starters, a majority of the pages regarding songs and albums were only based on user reviews from music websites such as Album of the Year and RateYourMusic, even though they received generally positive/decent critical reception, such as Despacito,[2] and Someone You Loved.[3] Not to mention that user reviews from the aforementioned sites are usually unprofessionally written, biased, too short and/or just plain bad; therefore, they are not reliable sources to prove a song/album's actual reception.
    • On the topic of Album of the Year, this site is also full of bandwagoning, with some users claiming that they didn't even listen to a song/album before rating,[4] which makes it even more untrustworthy.
  2. They forbade Michael Trapson from having a page on the wiki only because he paid respects to Michael Jackson.[5] Yes, Michael Jackson was a great artist and was never guilty of pedophilia allegations, but that doesn't make tribute artists who pay respects to him necessarily good.
  3. Just like the now-defunct Atrocious YouTubers Wiki, the wiki was borderline anti-NSFW, such as the fact that they listed mild swearing or anything sexual that is mild as a bad quality. There was also a pointless and childish category called "Songs with too much swearing",[6] which was (thankfully) removed.
  4. Similarly to the Loathsome Characters Wiki, they throw the pedophilla stamp without giving any good reason or don't even bother specifying how it's pedophilla with the biggest example being their page about Iggy Azalea's song "Mo Bounce"(more specifically it's music video where while there ARE children featured the children are not doing anything even romotely sexual) which is just proof that the word "pedophilla" is becoming lost in translation
  5. Several categories on the wiki made no sense, were questionable, or were mostly popular opinion-based, such as "Annoying songs", "Songs that don't even qualify as songs", and the aforementioned "Songs with too much swearing".
    • Speaking of the "Songs that don't even qualify as songs" category, it was severely misused on countless songs that have all the right credentials to count as music,[7] such as "Ocean to Ocean" by Pitbull, "Body Like a Back Road" by Sam Hunt, and "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5. Thankfully, this problem has been fixed, as the category now only features songs with no tone or melody (e.g. "Revolution 9" by The Beatles).
  6. Much like the Excellent Music Wiki, some pages had nonsensical, short and/or unexplained pointers;[8][9] because of that, several of them were removed.[10]
  7. Some idiotic and nonsensical claims:
    • They claimed that Lil Jon ruined Mark Holman's "Nothing Can Stop Me Now" from Disney's Planes and Ricky Reed's "Good Vibrations" from The Emoji Movie (which are good songs from bad movies) when he was not even featured in any of those songs. Lil Jon never even met Mark Holman nor Ricky Reed before.[11]
    • The "Sexy and I Know It" article previously had "The song can drag too long at 5 minutes and 21 seconds from the extended version." as one of the reasons, which made zero sense as extended versions are supposed to be long.[12]

Excellent Qualities

  1. There are several helpful and well-written pages about artists, songs and albums that are actually bad, such as 6ix9ine,[13] Lil Xan,[14] Grant MacDonald,[15] "Friday (Rebecca Black song)",[16] "Yummy (Justin Bieber song)",[17] and TOTAL XANARCHY.[18]
  2. Although they listed any form of swearing as a bad quality, their listing of slurs such as the n-word and r-word as a bad quality is good for obvious reasons.
    • Their listing of porn/nudity/sex as bad qualities is also good, considering that there are obviously a bunch of people who listen to music that are under the age of 18.
  3. Thankfully, after years of rebuilding since 2022, this wiki improved in 2024 as most of the weak and unprofessionally written pages, as well as pages based on user reviews from Album of the Year and RateYourMusic (which are, again, unreliable sources), are gone. Also, many pages have well-written and properly explained pointers now.
